The Butterfly Summer

Blurb

What magic is this? You follow the hidden creek towards a long-forgotten house. They call it Keepsake, a place full of wonder ...and danger. Locked inside the

crumbling elegance of its walls lies the story of the Butterfly Summer, a story you've been waiting all your life to hear. This house is Nina Parr's birth right. It holds the

truth about her family - and a chance to put everything right at last.

Harriet Evans. She brings you home.

I was drinking

As part of the story is set in Cornwall, it really has to be a Cornish afternoon tea, with maybe a glass of champagne or cider on the side...now does the clotted cream go on top of the jam or under it in Cornwall?

In my opinion

This novel twists and turns like a butterfly in flight, dipping in and out of history, with a magical tale that will capture your imagination with jewel like images of these enchanting insects.

I really wasn’t sure what to expect with this book, in my head Harriet Evans wrote lightweight novels- I was so wrong. It is well written with some fabulous descriptions, and from the beginning I was intrigued by the story. The subject of butterflies is something I know nothing about, how did Harriet Evans learn so much and what inspired her to come up with such a fascinating plot?

I loved the way it moved from one era to another, weaving in history & dangling various storylines tantalisingly in front of me. I totally believed in the locations and characters, I liked Nina and wanted her to find her happy ending. There were constant twists in the tale, and I found it hard to put down .

By the end of the novel, I had felt involved, emotional and ready for the final summing up, and then I found that there was just one more twist....
